Light Listening
Stories from Behind the Lens of White Shoal
Mission and Vision:
The mission of this website and corresponding podcast is to reach those who are unable to experience the beauty and history of White Shoal Light in person, whatever the reason may be. Being an offshore light station, the structure is not easily accessible by all; additionally, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this has become more apparent and the historic light station has found itself passed over for other, more conventional sites. The vison for this podcast is to provide listeners with a firsthand account of life on the light station through the voices of those who lived it.

Terminology Note: The words “lighthouse,” “light station,” “light tower,” “light,” and “tower” are all used interchangeably to describe the structure of White Shoal and others like it. “Light ship” or “light vessel” referrers to a boat stationed out on a shoal or reef manned by a crew tasked with keeping a light burning to guide others around the underwater obstruction.
